A video from one IT specialist became a topic of discussion on social media. She cautioned software engineers against taking out long-term loans based on their current income and employment status.
Prins Warsawal shared the video on Instagram, noting that even if an engineer's salary is 40, 50, or 100 million rupees, one cannot assume that their job, income, and skills will remain unchanged over the next 10–15 years. She emphasized: 'If you are a software engineer, regardless of your package, be very careful when taking out a long-term loan because AI is very real.'
Warsawal also addressed the stress associated with repaying monthly installments (EMI) after job loss. She explained that while a job might seem stable now, and everything might be fine for one or two years, fifteen years is too long. During this time, significant changes may occur in the role of a software engineer, required skills, and company needs.
The text accompanying her video also reflected this financial pressure, stating: 'Losing a job is stressful. Losing a job with EMI payments is a completely different level of stress.'
She clarified that she is not claiming that jobs in software engineering will disappear. Her view is that it is incorrect to take on a 15-year financial commitment assuming that the job, salary, and skills will remain the same over such a long period.
The emergence of AI does not lead to the complete disappearance of software engineers' jobs, but rather changes how they are performed. AI tools are actively used in tasks such as code generation, code review, testing, debugging, and documentation. This means that jobs are not disappearing, but the required skills and ways of working in the technology industry are changing. Therefore, it is critically important for specialists to constantly learn new technologies and update their competencies.
