Across the country, people celebrate the festival with vibrant festivities, including traditional performances, lantern displays, and moon-gazing events. Data from third-party travel platforms showed that night tourism in China was particularly popular on the first day of the festival.
The festival was also marked by a peak in travel as demand for family visits coincided with the desire for short trips. China Railway Group reported that 17.139 million passenger journeys were made across the country on the first day of the festival, with rail transport proceeding safely and in an organized manner. The Ministry of Transport's road network center predicted that the average daily traffic on China's highways would reach about 41 million vehicles during the holiday period.
Online travel platforms demonstrated an 18% increase in bookings for intercity trips on the day before and on the first day of the festival compared to the same period during the Dragon Boat Festival this year. Short trips remained predominant, with bookings to local and nearby destinations accounting for over 60% of total tourist travel during the holiday period.
In addition to tourism, the focus remained on family reunions, and meals and gatherings became another significant factor in the growth of consumer demand during the holidays. Data from lifestyle online services showed that orders related to Mid-Autumn reunion dinners increased by more than 105% compared to the previous year.
