Virat Kohli shared the secrets of his impressive form in the ODI format. He stated that he now prefers to play more freely, without worrying about public expectations. Kohli's goal is to create an additional boost of 30-40 runs for the team. In his opinion, provided the position is held until the end of the match, India can easily reach the mark of 350-360 runs.
Kohli is once again demonstrating his previous form. He, who will soon be around 38 years old, has managed to score three centuries, one innings with over 90 runs, and four half-centuries in the last ten ODI matches. Over the last approximately eighteen months, he has looked very fresh and rejuvenated as a player in this format.
Discussing this with Jio Hotstar, Kohli replied that he promised himself to play more freely and stop worrying about people's expectations. For a long time, his role was to stabilize and support the flow of the game, but now he views his function differently.
Kohli is ready to participate in the ODI series against West Indies, which starts on September 27. He emphasized that the clarity of his role is crucial. He knows he is capable of hitting powerful shots, but sometimes, when the field is complex or circumstances are tense, the batsman restrains himself, considering the team's role.
Now Kohli aims to create conditions for the team to gain an extra 30-40 runs. If he does not take risks at some point, it means he is preparing to bring the game to a point where aggressive scoring is necessary.
Kohli believes that ODIs change quickly. If the conditions are favorable and fast, and other teams are trying to score 340-350 runs, then India should also be able to reach 350-360 runs. It is on this basis that he is willing to take more risks. According to Kohli, if he stays on the field for a long time, scoring runs, he will be able to play even more aggressively in the final part of the match.
For Kohli, this change concerns not only the game but also the mindset. He noted that he had to gain some freedom in his head. This freedom helped him in the IPL, where he was able to play with the same freedom. Now he is not afraid that his exit from the game will put the team in a difficult situation. He is confident that there are other good players around him in the team who can handle the situation.
