U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed gratitude to the governments of the United Kingdom, Turkey, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates for supporting Washington's campaign 'Operation Economic Outsider'—a harsh economic action against Iran.
He stated on the social network X that, under his direction, teams were dispatched worldwide to engage with states and demand measures against the Iranian regime, noting that these efforts are yielding results.
Bessent emphasized that Turkey and Oman suspended flights by the private airline Mahan Air, while the United Arab Emirates ceased all flights operated by Iranian airlines. Dubai, a major commercial hub in the UAE, is an important destination for Iranian carriers, boasting numerous daily flights, a large Iranian community, and close business ties.
Furthermore, Bessent highlighted the introduction of new banking restrictions. On Wednesday, the UAE central bank blocked transactions with Iran through branches of the Iranian bank Bank Melli, accusing it of violating anti-money laundering, terrorism, and arms proliferation laws.
Last week, Turkey revoked the license of the Iranian bank Mellat, which is a correspondent financial institution and has been under Western sanctions for years.
Scott Bessent concluded his message by thanking the governments of the United Kingdom, Turkey, Oman, and the UAE, adding that cooperation will continue as much more needs to be done to prevent the implementation of Tehran's terrorist agenda.
