Cuba's economy decreased by approximately 5% in 2025, placing the island in the 'red zone' for the third consecutive year, according to estimates from the Center for Cuban Economic Research (CEEC), published on Friday.
The Minister of Cuban Diplomacy emphasized at the UN General Assembly that Cuba is ready to establish trade and business ties with North American companies, just as it does with any other country.
He also mentioned the process of implementing 176 economic reforms adopted in June on the island, which are aimed at liberalizing and decentralizing the economy, but reiterated that these measures are intended to 'continue building socialism.'
The government of Havana stated that it remains 'ready for dialogue with the United States to find solutions to bilateral disagreements.' It was noted, however, that such processes must take place 'on the basis of seriousness, respect, sovereign equality, compliance with international law, and without interference in internal affairs or preconditions.'
Regarding possible US military intervention in Cuba, Rodriguez again spoke of the 'persistent threat of the use of military force,' which, 'if it occurs, will constitute a crime of enormous gravity, cause the death of Cubans and young North Americans, and result in huge destruction.'
He added that he 'hopes this will never happen,' and noted that in such an event, 'Cuba will use all its resolve and energy to defend its legitimate right to self-defense.'
