The play 'The Retreating World,' written by Neomi Wallace, will be presented in the city of Sari, Mazandaran province, next month.
The 45-minute stage performance will take place in the Black Box hall of the Sari Department of Culture from October 6 to 9. Amir Ali Shisegari directed the production, and Parmida Sotoudeh was appointed as the translator of the play. The cast is limited to one performer—Reza Kamal.
'The Retreating World' is a poignant monologue dedicated to the periods of life before, during, and after the First Gulf War in Baghdad, Iraq. Within the monologue, it recounts an encounter with an Iraqi man named Ali, who is just over twenty years old, following the 1991 Gulf War.
He shares information that five thousand Iraqi children died due to the American blockade and questions whether this figure will become more real if he starts counting it for the audience.
Neomi Wallace, a 66-year-old American playwright, screenwriter, and poet from Kentucky, is known for her plays and has received numerous prestigious awards for her work. She taught English literature, poetry, and drama at Yale University, UCLA, Illinois State University, Merrimack College, Cairo American University, Frisian University of Amsterdam, and other educational institutions.
