A meeting of the Council of Heads of Migration Authorities of the CIS member states is taking place in St. Petersburg. The purpose of this event is to exchange experiences and assist other CIS member states in improving migration processes by utilizing advanced solutions implemented in Russia.
Representatives of state bodies from Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, who have powers to regulate migration issues, are participating in the event.
The meeting is chaired by Andrey Kikot, Head of the Migration Service Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, who is Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Andrey Kikot emphasized the importance of solidarity, constructive cooperation, and experience exchange in modern conditions, noting that this is necessary for forming a coordinated and effective system for managing migration processes and timely responding to changes in the migration situation.
During the meeting, participants discuss the assessment of the migration situation within the Commonwealth, changes in national legislation regulating migration processes. An exchange of experience on implementing modern information technologies to ensure the security and control of migration flows is also planned, including the use of artificial intelligence technologies for biometric identification of individuals in public surveillance systems.
Furthermore, issues of bilateral cooperation are being considered, such as the transition to organized employment mechanisms implemented by Russia, which allows for the return of citizens in an illegal status to their home countries, as well as the improvement of labor migration processes within the Commonwealth.
Representatives of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, as well as leaders of representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States, the Anti-Terrorism Center of CIS Member States, the Standing Committee of the Union of States, the General Confederation of City Associations, the Eurasian Economic Commission, and financial intelligence units of CIS Member States are also participating in the event.
