308-wheel truck from Belgium arriving in UP caused bridge closure and gathered crowds

A massive truck with 308 wheels, traveling from Belgium, reached the Chandawli area in UP, where it became the focus of public attention. This giant vehicle, which was shipped from Belgium to Urissa by sea, was heading to Lakhimpur Kheri for installation at a bioplastic production complex in Kumbhi.

The truck crossed the state border of Uttar Pradesh through the territories of Jharkhand and Bihar, attracting a large number of local residents who wanted to see this unusual machine. Police and specialists were deployed to ensure the safe movement of such a huge vehicle, manage traffic, and remove obstacles, including a pedestrian bridge.

The machine mounted on the 308-wheel truck was imported from Belgium. It first arrived at the port of Urissa by sea and then traveled along roads through Jharkhand and Bihar to reach Lakhimpur in UP. A plant for producing bioplastics is planned to be launched at this site in Kumbhi, where this large equipment will be used.

As soon as the truck arrived in Chandawli, a huge crowd gathered on the highway, attracted by the spectacle. Local residents came after seeing videos circulating on social media, starting from Urissa. Police personnel were deployed under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Krishna Murari Sharma to control the crowd and ensure the unimpeded progress of the truck.

Due to the significant height of the truck, various pedestrian bridges and billboards along the route presented obstacles. A hydraulic machine was used to lift the billboards, and two large cranes were required to raise the pedestrian bridge. Both sections of the pedestrian bridge were dismantled and lifted by the crane, allowing the truck to pass safely underneath.

Furthermore, more than two dozen similar obstacles were removed along the route from Urissa to Lakhimpur to facilitate the truck's movement. According to the crane operator, there are also more than half a dozen such obstacles remaining on the route to Lakhimpur, the responsibility for lifting and removing which lies with their company.

Uzbekistan's Energy Regulator Gains Gas Market Powers, Ministry of Energy Loses Right to Individual Permits

The powers of the Agency for Development and Regulation of the Energy Market of Uzbekistan are being expanded to include the natural and liquefied gas sectors. This change was formalized by a presidential decree issued on September 22.

According to this document, the energy regulator is tasked with gradually establishing market principles and regulating the electricity, as well as natural and liquefied gas markets. Previously, the regulator's main activities were focused exclusively on the electricity market, but the decree officially expands its competencies to the gas sector.

An appendix to the decree specifies a list of the agency's main areas of work. These include promoting competition in the electricity, natural, and liquefied gas markets, as well as ensuring the balance between supply and demand. The regulator will also monitor compliance with competition legislation and guarantee equal conditions for all market participants.

The regulator's responsibilities include licensing participants in these markets and overseeing compliance with licensing requirements. Furthermore, it will approve methodologies for calculating technical losses during electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. Starting in 2028, the agency will begin approving regulated tariffs and payments in the electricity, natural, and liquefied gas supply sectors, and will also monitor consumer rights and implement an effective system for handling their appeals.

Abolition of the Practice of Issuing Individual Permits by the Ministry of Energy

Another significant change concerns the functions of the Ministry of Energy. The decree abolishes the practice that allowed the ministry to issue individual permits to enterprises in the fuel and energy industry and end consumers for various contractual relationships, services, and other business matters.

According to 'Gazeta', this system of individual decisions created corruption risks because it gave the ministry considerable freedom of action when issuing permits for specific companies and consumers. As part of the action plan, the simplification of public services in the fuel and energy sector, including procedures for agreeing on technical specifications, is also planned. These processes are intended to be moved to a fully proactive mode, for which a corresponding draft document will be prepared for submission to the Cabinet of Ministers.

The document also provides for the revision of the entire energy regulatory framework and the further implementation of market mechanisms in the industry. In particular, the development of rules ensuring competition in the electricity, natural, and liquefied gas markets is planned, involving international consultants.

It should be noted that previously, a decree in Uzbekistan had changed the differentiated electricity tariffs for large consumers. Now, for them, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, a reducing coefficient will apply, lowering the tariff by 1.5 times. At the same time, the night discount is abolished, and electricity will be tariffed at the standard rate.

IIT Madras plans to create 1000 startups by 2032 and aims for monthly IPOs

The Director of IIT Madras, Professor V Kamakoti, stated that the institute has set a goal of having around 1000 startups by 2032, while also striving for at least one of them to undergo an Initial Public Offering (IPO) every month.

Speaking at the IIT Madras Alumni Association meeting named Sangam 2026 in Bengaluru on Saturday, Professor Kamakoti reported that the institute is already mentoring 583 startups with a total valuation of 83,000 crore rupees. He specified that IIT Madras incubates approximately 100 startups annually, 75% of which are founded by individuals who are not employees of the institute.

The institute has supported several companies, including electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy, Agnikul Cosmos, Uniphore, and Stellapps. The theme of the current alumni meeting was 'Atmanirbhar Bharat: Creating a Self-Reliant India.'

Professor Kamakoti emphasized the necessity of developing sovereign technologies in the country and noted that IIT Madras has secured 472 patents, which demonstrates its research capabilities.

At the event, Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu highlighted the importance of India's technological independence. He added that the current global political and economic climate increases the urgency of achieving this goal. Vembu mentioned ongoing discussions regarding the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) for UPI transactions but noted that similar discussions are not taking place regarding the fees small businesses pay for using platforms like WhatsApp. He also warned that technologies imported from abroad carry the risk of disconnection.

According to Vembu, the main problem facing modern nations is the concentration of technological power in the hands of a few corporations. He believes that if these monopolies are not broken, the benefits of technology are unlikely to reach wider segments of the population.

Addressing the attendees, Union Minister of Education Pranal Joshi stated that such meetings serve as a reminder of the need to create indigenous technologies, strengthen manufacturing, and nurture entrepreneurs capable of bringing Indian innovations to the global stage. He noted that IIT Madras has set a new benchmark in research innovation and demonstrated the possibility of successfully creating deep technologies in India. According to him, the country is increasingly transforming from a consumer of technology to its creator and exporter.

Zelensky calls on the US and EU to restrict trade with Russia and maintain sanctions

Ukrainian leader Zelensky appealed to world leaders to keep existing sanctions on Russian oligarchs and continue restricting all trade with the terrorists until Russia ceases the war. He emphasized that only joint daily efforts can bring peace closer.

In particular, Zelensky strongly urged US President Donald Trump to enact the 'Lindsey Graham Act' against Russia and all those financing its war. This recently approved law grants the White House additional authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries supporting the Kremlin's war by purchasing Russian oil.

The Ukrainian President also called on European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to introduce additional sanctions against Russia. He stressed that partners must not forget: Russia is intensifying its actions daily.

Zelensky warned that if Russians decide to make their attacks even more brutal, the world must choose more decisive countermeasures to prevent further escalation of the war. The head of state recalled recent Russian attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in various regions of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv.
