Indian shares his path to wealth in America: how he became a millionaire

For many Indians, the dream is to get a job in America. However, despite high salaries, it can be difficult to save money there. Rent, insurance, taxes, car expenses, and daily spending consume a significant portion of the high income. One Indian residing in the USA shared his experience of achieving millionaire status amidst the high cost of living.

Prateesh Jagani, who works in the USA on an H-1B visa, disclosed his financial journey on social media. He emphasized that his wealth is not the result of one large investment or sudden windfall; it is built upon years of meticulous planning, expense control, and continuous efforts to increase income.

Although the salaries of Indian professionals in America can be significantly higher than in India, the cost of living there is also very high. Rent, cars, medical insurance, taxes, and other monthly expenses can amount to a substantial sum. Prateesh explained that the first step was a detailed study of his expenses and the development of a long-term budget that he adhered to.

The most interesting part of his story was the change in employment. According to Prateesh, instead of focusing solely on cutting costs, he concentrated on increasing his earnings. He acquired new skills and strategically moved to higher-paying positions, which led to an increase in his income. After increasing his earnings, instead of proportionally increasing his spending, he continued to save and invest a portion of the increased income.

Prateesh reported that he first established an emergency fund covering three to six months of expenses. Then, he shifted focus to reducing high-interest debt and organizing his savings. Furthermore, he sought to understand the financial aspects related to taxation, medical insurance, and loans.

Prateesh's story demonstrates another important point: if salary growth is accompanied by a continuous increase in the standard of living, the benefits of a high income can diminish. He tried to avoid what is known as lifestyle inflation, focusing on savings and investments rather than simply increasing expenses alongside income. In his opinion, building capital does not happen overnight; it requires increasing income, controlling expenses, and maintaining financial discipline over a long period.

This story generates great interest among Indians working in America because after obtaining an H-1B visa, a high salary is only part of the picture. The real challenge lies in preserving funds amid the high cost of living and building future capital. Prateesh's story shows that with control over expenses and lifestyle, even with a high income, a significant financial cushion can be created. Nevertheless, it should be noted that this is Prateesh Jagani's personal experience, and the situation regarding salary, taxes, rent, and expenses differs for every H-1B visa holder.
