Uzbekistan Chess Federation Receives FIDE Excellence Award 2026

The Uzbekistan Chess Federation won the 'Best Federation' category at the FIDE Excellence Awards 2026 ceremony.

This award recognizes the federation's work in developing chess in Uzbekistan, expanding opportunities for players, popularizing chess among youth, and strengthening the country's position on the international chess stage.

As part of the FIDE Excellence Awards 2026, nine laureates were recognized for outstanding achievements in the world of chess. The awards for 'Best Chess Player' and 'Best Female Chess Player' will be presented at the closing ceremony of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad.

For the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, this award confirms its efforts to improve the national chess school and support Uzbek chess players participating in international competitions.

The 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad will take place in Samarkand in 2026.

Matches of the sixth round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad took place in Samarkand, where the main men's team of Uzbekistan defeated the Indian team, which is the reigning world champion.

During this intense competition, Uzbek chess players demonstrated a high level of skill. Jawhohir Sindorov drew against Arjun Erigaisi, and Nodirbek Abdusattorov shared points with Ramesh Babu Pragnanandh. Furthermore, Shamsiddin Vohidov finished his game against the reigning world champion Gukesh with a draw.

The key moment that secured the overall victory for the Uzbekistan team in the important match was the triumphant performance of Nodirbek Yakubboev, who defeated Nihal Sarin. The tournament officially started on September 15 and is scheduled to end on September 27. It is worth noting that prior to this, the Uzbekistan team had already achieved a confident victory over Hungary and taken the leading positions in the Chess Olympiad.

Uzbekistan National Team Wins Bronze for the First Time at FIDE Chess Paralympics in Samarkand

The Uzbekistan national team has become a medalist in the history of the FIDE Chess Olympiad held for people with disabilities. At the tournament, which took place on home ground in Samarkand, the team managed to win bronze medals.

In the decisive seventh round, Uzbek chess players defeated the Israeli team with a score of 2.5:1.5. This victory allowed the team to accumulate 11 points and secure third place in the overall standings.

41 teams representing 36 countries, as well as 164 chess players, participated in the competition. The gold medal was won by the Polish team, and Cuba took second place. Uzbekistan, acting as the host country, sent three delegations to the tournament.

The achievement of a bronze medal is the first medal in the history of Uzbekistan's participation in this tournament. Furthermore, the third Olympiad broke previous records for the number of participating teams.

Earlier in Samarkand, the 46th World Chess Olympiad began. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the competition participants with wishes of good luck and emphasized the importance of developing the Uzbek chess school.
