Uzbekistan defeats USA in Chess World Championship

The men's national chess team of Uzbekistan experienced its initial defeat at the home World Chess Olympiad held in Samarkand, losing 1.5 to 2.5 against Germany during the eighth round.

Javokhir Sindarov managed to secure Uzbekistan's sole full point by defeating Matthias Bluebaum on the second board, succeeding due to capitalizing on his opponent's errors and turning the game into a victory. Following eight rounds, Sindarov has accumulated 5.5 points from seven matches, maintaining an undefeated record at the home Olympiad with four wins and three draws. His participation and performance in international events, including this Olympiad, receive support from the National Bank of Uzbekistan.

The remaining matches were played against the host nation. On the first board, Nodirbek Abdusattorov achieved a draw with Vincent Keymer; although the German player held a superior position during the game, Abdusattorov successfully prevented a loss. Meanwhile, Nodirbek Yakubboev was defeated by Frederik Svane, and Shamsiddin Vokhidov lost to his brother, Rasmus Svane.

In Vokhidov's game, a critical mistake occurred on the sixteenth move. This error resulted in the Uzbek player losing an exchange, trading a rook for a minor piece. Despite continuing to fight until the fifty-first move, Rasmus Svane ultimately capitalized on his material advantage.

This loss to Germany marked Uzbekistan's first defeat in both the team competition and in individual games at the Olympiad. Prior to the eighth round, Germany was trailing the hosts by two team points, but this victory leveled the scores, bringing both teams to 14 points.

Germany had previously managed to defeat both the second and third teams of Uzbekistan.

Seven teams currently sit at 13 points: China, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, the United States, India, Armenia, and France. Uzbekistan's second team also holds 13 points and is ranked tenth. Among the leading competitors, India and Azerbaijan concluded their matches with a 2–2 draw, while Armenia and the Netherlands also finished 2–2. The United States secured a win against Serbia with a score of 3.5–0.5, and China defeated Poland 2.5–1.5, mirroring France's victory over Iran with the same result.

Uzbekistan's second men's team achieved a 2.5–1.5 victory over England in the eighth round. Earlier in the tournament, this team had beaten Spain and drawn with France, despite having chances to win the latter contest.

Three games in the match against England ended in draws: Jakhongir Vakhidov shared a point with Michael Adams, Abdimalik Abdusalimov drew with Gawain Jones, and Mukhammadzokhid Suyarov drew with Luke McShane. Khumoyun Begmuratov secured the decisive point for Uzbekistan by defeating Daniel Fernandez.

Uzbekistan's third men's team suffered a 1–3 loss to Switzerland. Saidakbar Saidaliev was defeated by Sebastian Bogner, and Almas Rakhmatullaev lost to Li Min Peng. Bakhrom Bakhrillaev and Muhammadali Abdurakhmonov managed to draw their respective games.

Uzbekistan's women's team triumphed over the Netherlands 3–1 in the eighth round, advancing to sixth place. Afruza Khamdamova defeated Eline Roebers on the first board. Umida Omonova lost to Peng Zhaoqin, followed by a win for Nilufarkhon Imamkuziyeva against Machteld van Foreest. Guldona Karimova earned the fourth point with a victory over Anna-Maja Kazarian.

Other notable results among top teams included a 2–2 draw between India and Kazakhstan, and China's 2.5–1.5 win against Georgia.

Uzbekistan's second women's team lost to Cuba. After three games, the score stood at 0.5–2.5, while Madinabonu Khalilova's game was still ongoing. Nilufar Yakubbaeva and Asal Salimova lost their matches, whereas Marjona Malikova secured a draw.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's third women's team defeated Jamaica 3–1. Zilola Aktamova, Maftuna Bobomurodova, and Shokhina Ahmedova won their games, while Barchinoy Shokirzhonova was defeated.

Matches of the sixth round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad took place in Samarkand, where the main men's team of Uzbekistan defeated the Indian team, which is the reigning world champion.

During this intense competition, Uzbek chess players demonstrated a high level of skill. Jawhohir Sindorov drew against Arjun Erigaisi, and Nodirbek Abdusattorov shared points with Ramesh Babu Pragnanandh. Furthermore, Shamsiddin Vohidov finished his game against the reigning world champion Gukesh with a draw.

The key moment that secured the overall victory for the Uzbekistan team in the important match was the triumphant performance of Nodirbek Yakubboev, who defeated Nihal Sarin. The tournament officially started on September 15 and is scheduled to end on September 27. It is worth noting that prior to this, the Uzbekistan team had already achieved a confident victory over Hungary and taken the leading positions in the Chess Olympiad.

The fourth round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad took place in Samarkand on September 19. The first men's team of Uzbekistan managed to defeat Turkey, achieving its fourth consecutive team victory.

In the men's tournament, Uzbekistan-2 won against New Zealand, while the third team secured a confident victory over Yemen. In the women's tournament, the main squad was able to overcome Argentina, but Uzbekistan-3 lost to Cuba.

Javhohir Sindarov, rated 2778, drew on the second board with young Turkish chess player Ediz Gürel (2636). This match was held at the home Olympiad; previously, Sindarov had defeated players from Peru and Austria. Currently, the grandmaster has accumulated 2.5 points out of three possible.

Support from the National Bank of Uzbekistan ensured Sindarov's preparation and participation in international competitions, including this Chess Olympiad, as well as work with coaches.

The decisive moment in the confrontation with Turkey was provided by Nodirbek Yakubboev, who defeated Vahap Sanal with black on the third board. Additionally, Nodirbek Abdusattorov drew with Yagiz Khan Erdogmus (2716), and Shamsiddin Vohidov drew with Emre Jan (2534).

Thanks to these results, Uzbekistan won the match with a score of 2.5:1.5, maintaining its perfect record—four wins in four matches and accumulating 8 team points. Up to this point, neither Uzbekistan nor Turkey had lost any match points.

Uzbekistan's second men's team won against New Zealand with a score of 2.5:1.5. In this game, Mukhammadjohid Suyarov defeated Sravan Ranjith, and Khumoyun Begmuratov beat Daki Mao. Abdumalik Abdisalimov drew with Felix Se, while Ortik Nigmatov lost to Tom Middleburg. After losing to Germany in the third round, Uzbekistan-2 was able to return to a winning position.

Uzbekistan's third men's team crushed Yemen with a score of 3.5:0.5. Almas Rahmatullaev, Mukhammadali Abdurakhmonov, and Asrorbek Omonov won their games, while Saidakbar Saidaliyev drew with Bashir Al-Kudaimi. This victory was the second major consecutive win for Uzbekistan-3, as the team had beaten Morocco 3.5:0.5 in the third round.

In other key matches, India defeated Spain 3:1, bringing full points to Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh Dommaraju; Pragnanandha and Nihal Sarin drew. China also defeated Serbia 3:1, thanks to victories by Wei Yi and Xiangyu Kun, while Ding Liren and Yu Yangyi finished their games in a draw.

At the time of publication, the USA had already guaranteed its victory over Ukraine with a score of 2.5:0.5, even though the game between Vasily Ivanchuk and Fabiano Caruana was still ongoing. Wesley So defeated Anton Korobov, Levon Aronian beat Roman Dukhterov, and Hans Niemann drew with Igor Samunenkov.

France and Romania finished their encounters with a score of 2:2, with all four games ending in a draw. Azerbaijan also split points with Czechia with a score of 2:2. Armenia defeated Argentina 2.5:1.5, and Hungary beat Israel with the same result.

Uzbekistan's first women's team achieved its fourth consecutive victory, defeating Argentina 3:1. Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova beat Majo Campos, and Umida Omonova defeated Anapalu Bordu. Afruza Khamdamova drew with Candela Gekamburu, and Guldona Karimova drew with Ernestina Adam.

Thus, the first women's team, like the men's, accumulated the maximum of 8 match points after completing four rounds. However, Uzbekistan-3 lost to Cuba with a score of 1.5:2.5. Meanwhile, Maftuna Bobomurodova managed to secure the team's only victory by beating Yerisbel Miranda. The second women's team lost to Kyrgyzstan with a score of 1:3. Nilufar Yakubbayeva defeated Nurai Sovetbekova, but Marzhona Malikova, Asal Salimova, and Mumtazbegim Mansurov lost their games.

Competitors in the Women's Tournament

Among the main rivals in the women's tournament, India defeated Mongolia 3:1, and China crushed Hungary 3.5:0.5. The USA also defeated Spain 3.5:0.5. Kazakhstan beat Armenia 3:1, and Poland defeated Vietnam with a similar result.

Other results include Germany's victory over Israel (3:1), Azerbaijan's victory over England (2.5:1.5), Bulgaria's unexpected victory over Romania (3.5:0.5), and Serbia's victory over Iran (3.5:0.5). Georgia drew with Austria (2:2), and France decisively defeated Moldova (3.5:0.5).
