Five Largest Banks in Uzbekistan Control Nearly Half of the Banking System's Assets

According to data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan as of August 1, 2026, the five largest commercial banks in Uzbekistan accumulated 49.1% of the total assets of the banking system, 52.1% of loans, and 45.4% of deposits.

Meanwhile, the five smallest banks in each of these categories held less than 1% of the market share. The total volume of assets for the entire banking system amounted to 1,016.6 trillion UZS.

UzNatsBank remained the leader in terms of assets with 145.8 trillion UZS, accounting for 14.3% of the sector. Its assets increased by 3.7% compared to the previous year. Agrobank was second with assets of 124.2 trillion UZS, or 12.2%, demonstrating an asset growth of 28.2%. Uzpromstroybank took third place with 105.2 trillion UZS (10.3%), while its assets grew by 10.2%.

The top five leaders were completed by Kapitalbank with 62.1 trillion UZS and a growth of 20.3%, and Asakabank with 62 trillion UZS and a growth of 5%.

The same three banks led the list in lending. UzNatsBank's loan portfolio reached 105.5 trillion UZS, corresponding to 16.4% of the market, despite a decrease of 0.4% during the year. Agrobank increased its loan portfolio by 23.5%, reaching 92.6 trillion UZS, or 14.4% of the market. At the same time, Uzpromstroybank's loans decreased by 11.8%, amounting to 60 trillion UZS, or 9.3%.

Asakabank took fourth place in lending with 39.6 trillion UZS, and Kapitalbank with 38 trillion UZS.

UzNatsBank also led the banking sector in deposits, collecting 58.4 trillion UZS, or 12.1% of the market, reflecting a growth of 27.4%. Kapitalbank ranked second with 48.9 trillion UZS (10.1%), increasing deposits by 26.2%. Agrobank's deposits grew by 66%, reaching 43 trillion UZS, while Uzpromstroybank's deposits increased by 46.8% to 37.6 trillion UZS. The top five leaders were supplemented by Halk Bank with 31.1 trillion UZS and a growth of 18.8%.

Among the banks with the smallest assets was Saderat Bank with 619.6 billion UZS. The five banks with the smallest assets also included Poitakht Bank with 1 trillion UZS, Madad Invest Bank with 1.1 trillion UZS, Open Bank with 1.7 trillion UZS, and AVO Bank with 2 trillion UZS. These five institutions collectively accounted for 0.63% of the sector's assets.

Saderat Bank also had the smallest loan portfolio—8.7 billion UZS. This was followed by Uzum Bank with 326.5 billion UZS, Poitakht Bank with 579.7 billion UZS, Madad Invest Bank with 583.7 billion UZS, and Octobank with 727.3 billion UZS. Their combined share in the banking system's loans was 0.35%.

The smallest deposit base belonged to Saderat Bank (50.6 billion UZS). The five banks with the smallest deposit bases also included Open Bank (174.9 billion UZS), Poitakht Bank (199.6 billion UZS), Madad Invest Bank (214.4 billion UZS), and AVO Bank (829.4 billion UZS). Together they constituted 0.3% of the total system deposits.

As of August 1, 2026, 34 commercial banks operated in Uzbekistan. The total loan portfolio of all banks reached 644.6 trillion UZS, and deposits amounted to 482.7 trillion UZS.

Uzbekistan Banks Issued Mortgage Loans totaling 18.3 Trillion Uzbek Sums

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan reported that commercial banks in Uzbekistan provided mortgage loans for housing purchases totaling 18.3 trillion Uzbek sums to nearly 59,200 citizens between January and August 2026. This figure exceeds the volume issued during the same period last year by 4.9 trillion Uzbek sums.

Average interest rates on the issued mortgage loans ranged from 16.9% to 21.6%, depending on the source of financing.

Distribution of Mortgage Loans by Market

Approximately 74% of all mortgage loans, amounting to 13.6 trillion Uzbek sums, were directed to the primary housing market, serving 43,757 borrowers. The secondary housing market received 26% of the loans, or 4.7 trillion Uzbek sums, covering 15,422 people.

Among borrowers, men accounted for 53%, and women for 47%. By age group, the largest share—64%, or 37,980 people—was comprised of citizens aged 31 to 50 years. The 18–30 age group provided 26% of borrowers (15,224 people), while 10% (5,975 borrowers) were over 51 years old.

Geography and Leaders of the Banking Sector

The largest volume of mortgage lending was registered in Tashkent, amounting to 5.592 trillion Uzbek sums. This is followed by the Andijan region with 1.591 trillion Uzbek sums and the Fergana region with 1.264 trillion Uzbek sums.

Among the banks leading in issuance volume, Halk Bank ranked first with 2.845 trillion Uzbek sums. Following them are Agrobank (2.771 trillion Uzbek sums), National Bank (2.212 trillion Uzbek sums), and Ipoteka-bank (2.167 trillion Uzbek sums).

It is also noted that over the past five years, the volume of issued mortgage loans has almost doubled: it grew from 9.8 trillion Uzbek sums in 2021 to 21.2 trillion Uzbek sums by the end of 2025.
