Automaker Volkswagen has announced a global recall of approximately 2.86 million vehicles due to a potential steering safety risk associated with corrosion.
According to data from the German transport authority KBA, affected models include VW Tiguan, Touran, Golf, and Caddy produced between 2013 and 2024. Additionally, about 700,000 Audi vehicles manufactured from 2017 to 2024 are included in the recall.
The KBA reported that corrosion could lead to bolt failure, which potentially could cause steering failure. According to the statement, no reports of such incidents have been received.
A Volkswagen representative told the AFP agency that the corrosion issue was discovered during quality checks of these vehicles. He specified that the recall is being conducted as a preventive measure, and no human injuries have been recorded.
It was also announced that drivers can continue to operate their vehicles until they schedule an appointment with a dealer for bolt replacement.
