In educational institutions in Uzbekistan, personal belongings and students' backpacks are being checked, resulting in the discovery of vapes. The Prosecutor's Office officially confirmed the conduct of such preventive measures and published a video recording of one such check.
Prevention inspectors have the right to visit classrooms, inspect students' bags, and hold explanatory conversations with them. These actions are organized to prevent minors from committing offenses.
Legislative measures against vapes
The Prosecutor's Office reminded that the use of vapes is prohibited in Uzbekistan. For finding two or more electronic cigarettes, a fine ranging from 100 to 200 basic calculation units is stipulated, along with the confiscation of the devices themselves. At the current BRV rate, this fine is estimated at 44 to 88 million soms.
If the matter concerns the storage of one electronic cigarette intended for personal use, a fine of one BRV may be applied, which amounts to 440 thousand soms.
Authorities emphasized that the purpose of these preventive checks and conversations with students is solely to prevent offenses. Furthermore, the government previously approved a technical regulation that sets requirements for vapes and heated tobacco products.
