The Director General of the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization for Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Russia reported a 7.5% increase in Iran's exports to Armenia during the first seven months of 2026. During this period, the value of goods sent from Iran to Armenia reached $385 million.
According to IRNA, citing the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization, Mehdi Babaei mentioned a joint meeting of the Iranian and Armenian border and customs commission held on September 12 in Jolfa. At this meeting, both sides emphasized the need to develop customs cooperation and simplify trade operations between the two countries.
Babaei noted that one of the most important outcomes of the meeting was the signing of a memorandum on a customs green corridor between Iran and Armenia. He added that necessary steps would be accelerated for the electronic exchange of customs documents and data, as well as for identifying and implementing authorized operators.
Emphasizing that the implementation of these measures could form the basis for accelerating and facilitating customs and transit procedures at the border of the two countries, Babaei stated: 'Based on the agreements reached, provided the desired requirements are met, the capacity of freight transport at the Norduz border may increase to 300 trucks per day.'
The Director General of the Iranian Trade Promotion Organization for Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Russia considered the development of customs infrastructure, electronic information exchange, and the increase in cargo traffic capacity at the Norduz border as ways to develop trade and strengthen economic and transit ties between Iran and Armenia.
The joint Iranian-Armenian border and customs meeting was attended by the heads and directors of the customs services of both countries, the Armenian ambassador in Tehran, the commercial attaché of the embassy, and representatives of relevant bodies from both countries.
