The director was transferred on charges of assaulting students. This incident occurred at the Jalpaiguri district school, which reportedly has a history of about 150 years. The events unfolded on September 8th when special food consisting of rice and chicken was served to the students in honor of Teacher's Day.
A group of students claimed that they were not provided with enough rice and chicken, which provoked the argument at the school. Following the escalation of the conflict, allegations surfaced against Director Dharmchand Barui for attacking some students, leading to further deterioration of the situation.
Witnesses reported that after a verbal altercation between the students and the director, some students began to pursue the director, throwing him to the ground and attacking him.
An investigation was initiated by the Department of Education following the incident, conducted by the district school inspector and department representatives. The preliminary investigation indicated that both parties bear responsibility for the dispute.
Education Minister Dipak Barman announced that Director Dharmchand Barui was immediately transferred and reassigned to a school located in Malbaghar, Jalpaiguri district. Measures were also taken against the students. Minister Dipak Barman stated that the director was ordered to take a 15-day leave starting from September 9th. Four students were issued transfer certificates on September 11th.
These four students were accused of assaulting their teacher and were prohibited from continuing their studies at the Jalpaiguri district school, although they were allowed to enroll in another school. Education Minister Dipak Barman visited this school in Jalpaiguri city on September 11th, where he held a meeting with education department staff and school personnel to gather complete information about the situation.
The initial investigation by the Department of School Education established that both sides played a role in the dispute, which formed the basis for the director's transfer. Simultaneously, action was taken against the students. The incident raised questions regarding the school meal provision system and conflicts between teachers and students. The Department of Education is currently working to resolve the situation following the measures taken.
