The artificial intelligence (AI) developed by Google has received a new feature designed to relieve users from the tedious task of contacting companies and waiting for service. With the Pixel 11, Gemini will have the ability to make calls on behalf of the user and manage the entire dialogue.
Google describes this innovation as an 'initial experiment,' allowing users to delegate various activities to Gemini, such as scheduling reservations, confirming item availability in stores, or rescheduling appointments. This function can be activated without the user needing to initiate the call; they just need to ask the AI through the Gemini app on the Pixel.
Other initiatives in the sector
Google is not the only one working on automated AI phone calls. Meta is also developing a similar feature for its AI agent, Muse. However, there is information indicating that, in this case, some calls may be answered by call center employees in the background instead of being conducted entirely by the AI.
This new Google calling feature is being launched in the United States as an 'initial preview.' Currently, it is only accessible to paid Gemini subscribers who are part of the Phone by Google Public Beta program and who possess a Pixel 11 device.
