Disney+ will implement a new price adjustment in the United States, raising the cost of subscriptions to US$12.49. Currently, there is no confirmed information on whether this adjustment will be applied to Brazil. Attempts to contact Disney for clarification have not received a response.
According to information released by Bloomberg, this is the sixth price increase for the service since its launch in the country six years ago. In Brazil, the last recorded increase was in June, corresponding to increments of nearly 7%.
In contrast, the international adjustment is considerably larger, reaching up to a 13% increase. Furthermore, this adjustment also impacts ESPN Unlimited and Hulu, platforms that were fully acquired by Disney in 2023.
It is important to note that not all plan options available in the US have an exact parallel in the Brazilian market. For example, the Disney+ Premium plan available in Brazil already incorporates ESPN channels, which represents an additional benefit compared to American packages.
This increase in Disney+ reflects a worrying trend in the streaming sector, where multiple services are raising their prices both internationally and locally. Recent examples of this escalation include Claro TV+, which saw a 14.30% increase at the beginning of the month, and Apple TV (formerly known as Apple TV+), which registered a growth of up to 27% at the end of August.
