The Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with the Regional Director of UN Women for Europe and Central Asia, Belen Sanz Luque. The purpose of the discussion was to review the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UN Women.
The opening of the UN Women office in Uzbekistan was characterized as a significant step in developing international partnership on the issue of gender equality. The parties also discussed collaboration within a joint program launched in April 2026 involving UN Women, UNFPA, and UNICEF. This program aims to increase women's economic opportunities.
Priorities identified during the meeting included boosting women's economic activity and expanding their participation in digital markets, as well as in green economy and sustainable industries. The importance of support from UN Women for holding the next forum in Uzbekistan in 2028 was noted.
Participants discussed cooperation in the context of the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the results of the Second Asian Women's Forum held in Bukhara in May 2026, and the promotion of initiatives put forward at this forum.
Particular attention was paid to interaction within the framework of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Countries. Participants discussed the possibility of organizing a regional conference to advance the global agenda of 'Women, Peace, and Security'. Furthermore, the parties analyzed the preparation of Uzbekistan's Gender Profile, emphasizing the need to reflect ongoing reforms and achievements in ensuring gender equality in this document.
