Experience of food storage in Khiva in the 19th century amazed an English tourist

In 1840, James Abbott, a tourist who arrived in Khiva during a harsh winter, was impressed by the local population's skills in long-term storage of grapes and watermelons, as well as in preserving butter to a high standard.
