An unusual incident occurred in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, surprising both the administration and UIDAI staff. The twin daughters of the 10th grade from St. Mary's School, Hizra and Tuba Zubair, faced difficulties updating their Aadhaar cards for several months.
The biometric data of both sisters, particularly iris scans and fingerprints, were so similar that whenever one of them updated her card, the other's application was automatically rejected as a duplicate.
According to Hizra Zubair, the family first noticed the striking resemblance in the sisters' facial features and eyes when the father used the Face Lock feature on his mobile phone. After the phone unlocked with one sister's face, it also unlocked when the second sister presented her face, raising suspicions about the abnormally high similarity of their biometric data.
Despite visiting Aadhaar centers, the problem remained unresolved. The family approached the Rampur district official, Ajay Kumar Dwivedi. Taking the situation seriously, he contacted the UIDAI offices in Delhi and Lucknow.
After a lengthy process and the application of special technical measures, it was finally possible to successfully update the individual Aadhaar cards for both students. The sisters and their relatives expressed gratitude to the district official, while he described the case as extremely rare.
A family member, Masood Ahmed, reported that the entire process took about two and a half to three months. During this time, the family followed the instructions of the administration and UIDAI. He emphasized that the inability to update the cards caused difficulties in registering the sisters for the 10th-grade exams; previously, updating one card led to the cancellation of the other's application.
Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, the Rampur district official, explained that Hizra and Tuba Zubair are twins who initially received their Aadhaar cards based on their parents' identification details. They now needed to update the data using biometrics for the 10th-grade examinations.
The official stated that when the first student updated her Aadhaar via biometrics, the second student's application was rejected due to the matching fingerprints and eye scans with the original record. The district administration contacted the UIDAI office in Delhi, which coordinated with relevant services in Lucknow. After persistent efforts and a process that took about four to five months, it was possible to update the individual Aadhaar cards for both sisters.
The official called this case 'extremely rare,' noting that even twins usually have some differences in biometric data, but in this instance, the degree of similarity led to a duplication issue during the Aadhaar update.
Thanks to the Aadhaar card updates, the path for both students to register for the 10th-grade exam was cleared. Hizra expressed appreciation to the district official and the administration. This case is notable because the anomalous similarity of biometric data, arising during a standard administrative procedure, created serious obstacles for both sisters.
