Scientists have created a large atlas of transcriptomes of prefrontal cortex cells

American researchers have developed the most extensive atlas to date of single-cell transcriptomes of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex of the human brain, covering various stages of human life.

As part of the same scientific initiative, colleagues of the scientists studied the characteristics of the brain transcriptome in people suffering from diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.

The results of these studies, published in the journal Nature, may contribute to the discovery of new targets for the development of drugs intended for the therapy of these pathologies.

Human brain organoids formed neural networks in mouse brains

Researchers successfully transplanted human brain organoids into mice that had lost a large portion of their cerebral cortex. Within three months after transplantation, human cells constituted over ninety percent of the structure in the animal's brain.

The results of this study, published in the journal Nature, allowed scientists to demonstrate the significant potential of this experimental model. This model can be used to study various neurological pathologies characteristic of humans, including cerebral palsy (CP).
