Hindustan Motors prepares to return the Ambassador model, focusing on electric vehicles

Important information has emerged regarding the Indian team: the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is currently searching for a new chief selector. The incumbent chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has informed senior board officials that he no longer wishes to hold this position.

According to a source close to Agarkar and who provided the information to PTI, he has already notified the BCCI of his unwillingness to remain in the role.

Earlier, the annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI took place, where the board was authorized to make a decision regarding the future of Agarkar as selector chairman. Agarkar was one of the most discussed figures at this meeting, as his contract expires on October 4th.

At the end of the session, a senior BCCI official stated that the officers now have the authority to make decisions concerning the selection committees.

Representatives from various states attended the 95th BCCI AGM, including former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly (Bengal Cricket Association) and former bowler Venkatesh Prasad (Karnataka State Cricket Association).

In addition to the future chairman of the senior selection committee, the BCCI is also considering filling all five vacancies in the junior selection committee. BCCI Secretary Devadjit Saikia noted that numerous applications have been received for positions in the junior selection committee, and the board aims to complete this process within 15 days.

Saikia added that the appointment of the current Indian field coach, Shubdeep Ghosh, is short-term, but his performance will be evaluated, and a final decision is yet to be made.

State Secretary Unmesh Hanvilkar raised a demand regarding hosting a match in the Mumbai Cricket Association. It was noted that the famous Wankhede stadium has gone about two years without hosting a match, the last of which was against New Zealand at the end of 2024. Nevertheless, cricket will soon return to this venue with upcoming matches of tournaments such as the Women's Champions League and Women's Premier League early next year.

No decisions were made regarding the postponement of the BGT test from Ranchi. Saurav Tiwari, Secretary of Jharkhand State and former Indian cricketer, declined to confirm any information about the removal of the India-Australia match from Ranchi, stating that it was not mentioned at the AGM.

The general body approved an improved payment structure and the reclassification of umpires and match referees. Although details were not disclosed, the top two tiers of umpires for major domestic tournaments currently receive ₹40,000 and ₹30,000 daily, respectively, and ₹20,000 for T20 games. However, with the revised payment classes A, B, C, and D, the daily pay will be ₹60,000, ₹50,000, ₹40,000, and ₹35,000, respectively.

Following multiple instances of age fraud in some state units, the BCCI updated and adopted its age verification policy. A new internal committee of the BCCI was established under the BCCI's anti-sexual harassment policy. Saikia also reported that the issue of granting associate membership to the Andaman and Nicobar cricket was postponed due to legal matters.

The experienced fast bowler of the Indian team, Bumneshwar Kumar, openly discussed his long-term absence from international cricket. He had been out of the team for almost four years, having last played in a T20 International match against New Zealand in November 2022.

Kumar explained why he initially thought he could return to the Team India lineup soon, and how he gradually realized that this would not happen. He discussed his expectations of returning to the team in detail during a podcast with Jatin Sapru.

According to Kumar, after his visit to New Zealand, he was counting on a quick return to the Indian team. Team representatives called him, and based on that conversation, he believed they might bring him back within the next two series. However, this did not happen, and over time, he understood that his initial hopes were unfounded.

He noted that initially, he had high hopes of returning to Team India, but then he decided to let go of that expectation. Kumar stated that he had already overcome the period of constantly waiting for the next series.

Recalling his period of absence from Team India, Kumar admitted that accepting this reality was not easy. When it became clear that a return would not happen, he accepted the situation. His family played a very important role in providing support during this difficult time.

Bumneshwar Kumar also mentioned the 2022 T20 World Cup. India lost to England in the semi-finals, and the team exited the tournament. He recounted that this happened in Adelaide. Upon returning to his room, he told his wife, Nupur, that it was his last World Cup. He explained this by saying that, based on his experience, he saw that after losing in such a tournament, selectors tend to look forward, and that is correct.

Despite Kumar giving up hope of returning to Team India, his desire to play for India remains. He emphasized that he plays not to prove anything to anyone, but if he is given another chance to play for India, he would be happy about it.

Discussions about Kumar's possible return to Team India reignited after his impressive performances in the IPL. In the 2025 season, he took 17 wickets for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In the 2026 season, he surpassed this figure, taking 28 wickets. After two outstanding seasons, fans and sports experts began demanding his inclusion in the Indian T20 team, and Kumar himself agreed that he felt worthy of a spot in the squad.
