Sony has obtained a patent registration that introduces a novel feature for the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller: enabling this accessory to function as an intermediary for financial transactions.
According to documents analyzed by Patentlyze, this technology would allow users to finalize purchases within the PlayStation ecosystem using payment data stored on their smartphones, eliminating the need to pre-register a card directly on the console.
The concept described in the patent is quite straightforward. The player would simply bring the mobile phone close to the PS5 controller, and a request would be displayed on the phone for payment confirmation. After approval, the necessary data would be sent through the controller, and the purchase would be registered on the console.
Furthermore, one of the schemes presented in the patent suggests the feasibility of bringing a physical card directly near the DualSense, which would include operations related to purchasing gift cards.
In practical application, this innovation could serve as an option for players who wish to avoid keeping payment information permanently saved both in their account and on the console itself.
However, despite the patent registration, there is no official confirmation yet that Sony plans to bring this technology to the commercial market. Technology companies often register patents to safeguard concepts and systems that may not be released to the public. Sony has the freedom to develop the feature, alter its operation, or choose not to implement it.
Therefore, at this moment, the potential of the DualSense with payment capability exists only as technology detailed in a patent document. The news about the registration was initially published in Olhar Digital.
