Gauhati University and a high-level Thai delegation held discussions on expanding cooperation in higher education, scientific research, information technology, culture, training, and student exchange, according to the university structure itself.
The Thai delegation was led by Urasa Mongkolanawin, Director General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East and Africa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and also included representatives and officials from Thai universities.
The discussions focused on potential exchange programs for students and teachers, joint research, internships, training, and common projects in the fields of IT and higher education.
Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, Nani Gopal Mahanta, emphasized the historical, cultural, and linguistic ties between Thailand, India, and Northeast. He also mentioned the connection between the Thai language and the ancient Tai-Ahom language.
Mahanta stated: 'The historical, cultural, and linguistic ties between Thailand, India, and especially the Northeast are a valuable resource. There is significant potential to strengthen these ties through academic and institutional cooperation.'
Mongkolanawin highlighted opportunities for broader cooperation between Thailand and India in education, tourism, culture, training, internships, and academic exchange. She noted: 'There are significant opportunities for further expansion of cooperation between India and Thailand in education, tourism, culture, training, internships, and academic exchange.'
Furthermore, the interaction covered issues of institutional links between the universities of the two countries, as well as opportunities for students, teachers, and researchers.
