City bus drivers in Tashkent are facing a new type of disciplinary measure: their salary may be reduced by 5% if they skip a scheduled stop. In cases of systematic violations, the employee may be fired.
Legal consultant of 'Toshshahartranskhizmat' Rustam Narbayev told Podrobno.uz in an exclusive interview that bus movement is tracked using a GPS system. This system allows it to record whether the driver made a stop at the designated point on the route. If a stop is missed, disciplinary sanctions are applied to the driver, including withholding 5% of their salary.
If a driver attempts to conceal a violation, such as by turning off the GPS, passengers are advised to inform the company about such incidents via the short number 1062. The company promises to consider such appeals on an individual basis.
Upon multiple instances of skipping stops, the driver risks losing their job. The employer has the right to appeal to the trade union for consent to terminate the employment contract after three or more such cases have been recorded, with each situation being analyzed separately.
Representatives of 'Toshshahartranskhizmat' also state that the current control measures are insufficient. According to Narbayev, some drivers continue to try to bypass the monitoring system, including turning off the GPS.
Furthermore, it was noted that twelve traffic lights on Tashkent's Small Ring Road were synchronized using 'green wave' technology. This allows vehicles to travel at a speed of 50–60 kilometers per hour and cover about 5 kilometers with minimal stops.
