Mahindra introduces new THAR OG model with updated specifications and prices

Mahindra has released a new version of its vehicle, named the Mahindra Thar OG. In addition to the name change, numerous updates have been made to this new model.

The new three-door Thar OG is equipped with a powerful engine, features a redesigned look, improved interior materials, and a new suspension system. The car is fitted with a new 2.2-liter diesel engine and an automatic transmission, which is now available even without four-wheel drive.

Mahindra has set the starting price for the new Thar at 10.32 lakh rupees for the exclusive configuration (ex-showroom). The base XT version will be equipped with a 1.5-liter diesel engine with a manual gearbox, which is also available in the LXT and ZXT configurations. This engine produces 87.2 kW (approximately 116.9 hp) and generates 300 Nm of torque.

The LXT and ZXT configurations will feature more powerful engines: a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 150.1 hp and 330 Nm of torque, as well as a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine providing 159.6 hp and 330 Nm of torque.

The front end of the Thar OG has been updated: it features a redesigned grille consistent with Thar branding, as well as new LED headlights with C-shaped daytime running lights. Additionally, the vehicle is integrated with LED fog lights with built-in turn function.

Although the overall appearance remains similar to the current Thar and Thar Rocks, Mahindra has updated the SUV's front and rear bumpers. The vehicle is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, redesigned rear LED taillights, and OG branding on the tailgate.

The interior space of the SUV has undergone less significant changes than the exterior. Improvements in the Thar OG include brown leatherette upholstery (Truffle Brown Leatherette) and a second-row seat armrest. Mahindra claims that the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) level in the Thar OG has been reduced.

Regarding safety systems, the vehicle comes standard with six airbags. Mahindra states that this is the first vehicle in its segment equipped with the HPTS (Head, Pelvis, Thorax and Shoulder) airbag system, designed to protect the head, pelvis, thorax, and shoulders.

The braking system has also been modernized: the vehicle is now equipped with four disc brakes. Additional features available include ESP, traction control, Hill-Hold Control, and dynamic vehicle control system. The cabin is also fitted with front parking sensors.

Mahindra introduced the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX Edge with a starting price of 9.39 lakh rupees for the petrol manual variant. The petrol automatic version costs 10.59 lakh rupees, while the diesel manual model will cost 10.59 lakh rupees including on-site charges.

The new RevX Edge and RevX Edge (O) models have been launched above the previously offered RevX M and RevX M (O) configurations. The RevX Edge configuration occupies an intermediate position in the overall vehicle lineup. The car is now available in 11 different configurations: MX 1, MX 2, RevX M, RevX M (O), RevX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX 5, RevX A, AX5L, AX7, and AX7L.

The RevX Edge version is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. This configuration is also fitted with a rear-view camera, a USB Type-C port, and cruise control. The RevX Edge (O) model offers a panoramic sunroof, roof rails, electric folding side mirrors, automatic headlights and wipers, as well as a remote start button function.

Last year, the company released a vehicle with a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine of 111 hp and a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol TGDi engine of 131 hp. Mahindra has added a diesel engine to the RevX lineup, meaning consumers can now choose a 1.5-liter diesel engine of 117 hp. Furthermore, the 131 hp TGDi engine is no longer offered.

Mahindra is preparing to introduce an updated version of the Thar model. Previously, the company announced the first update for this model in October 2025, and it may release a second update after about a year. According to available reports, Mahindra might potentially update its SUV as early as this month, September, although there is no official confirmation from the company yet.

The updated SUV version is expected by the end of September. As part of the update, Mahindra may make some design changes to visually distinguish it from the current model, whose appearance has remained unchanged since its release in 2020. The updated Thar could receive a more modern and stylish look, giving it a fresh image.

Design changes may include a redesigned grille, reimagined bumpers, new headlights, and updated wheel designs. Recently, during SUV testing, a grille with five slots was observed.

Furthermore, the updated Thar is planned to be equipped with LED headlights and new five-spoke wheels. The company may also update the interior, making various functional and stylistic changes, including new upholstery. The vehicle will incorporate new technical features, as well as comfort amenities and elements.

Expected features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, and wireless smartphone charging. The addition of passive keyless entry is also possible, which will simplify the process of entering and exiting the vehicle.

No changes are expected in the engine of the new Thar; it will retain the three options available in the current model. The SUV will be equipped with 1.5-liter diesel, 2.2-liter diesel, and 2.0-liter gasoline engines. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle will be available with all-wheel drive.

The power and torque of the engines are as follows: the 1.5-liter diesel engine produces 117 hp and 300 Nm of torque; the 2.2-liter diesel engine provides 130 hp and 300 Nm of torque; and the 2.0-liter gasoline engine delivers 150 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
