Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS), a state-owned enterprise, celebrated its Golden Jubilee in Bangalore on September 22, marking five decades of work in the fields of technological infrastructure, digital services, skill development, and electronics.
The celebration was attended by Karnataka Minister D. K. Shivakumar, Minister for IT and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge, former Chief Minister Virappa Moile, KEONICS Chairman Sharath Kumar Bache Gowda, and other industry and government representatives.
During the event, a new KEONICS logo, the CLT module, and a book documenting the corporation's fifty-year history were presented. Additionally, a statue of R. K. Baliga, founder of Electronic City and the first Chairman and CEO of KEONICS, was unveiled.
Established in 1976, KEONICS played a key role in creating 332 acres of land for Electronic City. Over time, it has transformed from an electronics promotion agency into a technology partner supporting government departments, businesses, and citizens.
Currently, the corporation's focus covers IT infrastructure, digital governance, procurement, skill development, and technology services across the entire state of Karnataka.
KEONICS operates over 130 training centers that have trained and certified more than 1.39 lakh students between the financial years 2019-20 and 2025-26.
The corporation is also involved in constructing new technological infrastructure inShivamogga, Mangaluru, and Mysuru, while simultaneously expanding existing IT parks in Gubbali, Kalaburagi, and Shivamogga.
An additional IT park of 2.5 acres and a larger 36-acre IT SEZ are being developed in Shivamogga. In Mangaluru, an IT park of 3.25 acres is under development at Blueberry Hill, Derebail, and in Mysuru, an IT park of 3.48 acres is planned.
These projects aim to create opportunities in technology, employment, and business outside of Bangalore, with some developments planned using Public-Private Partnership and DFBOT models.
KEONICS is also strengthening its role as a technology partner for the government through IT consulting, system integration, infrastructure management, procurement, and provision of technical manpower.
The KEONEXT digital marketplace is designed to optimize procurement and service delivery between government agencies regarding ICT products, IT services, infrastructure, training, and technical resources.
Concurrently, the organization is modernizing its upskilling programs and digital education platform for students and working professionals.
One of the new initiatives is KEO AI PC—an AI-supported product manufactured in Karnataka, intended to make artificial intelligence tools more accessible to students and learners. The planned rollout includes 2222 KEO AI PCs in 239 taluks and 31 residential model schools equipped with on-device AI capabilities to support digital learning and AI literacy.
