Eating jam for breakfast, spread on bread or toast, is enjoyed by both children and adults. However, jams sold in stores often contain artificial colors and preservatives. Therefore, it is suggested to prepare 100% pure and natural apple jam from fresh apples, without using any additives. Making this jam is very simple, and its taste is much more pleasant than that of expensive store-bought alternatives. This homemade apple jam will appeal to everyone, from children to adults.
The following ingredients are needed for preparation: 4 apples (about 500 grams), 1.5 cups of sugar (the amount can be adjusted according to taste and the sweetness of the apples), 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 1/2 cup of water, and 1 small piece of cinnamon (optional, to enhance the flavor).
First, thoroughly wash the apples, then peel them. After that, remove the seeds and hard parts, and cut the remaining flesh into small pieces.
Place the chopped apples, the piece of cinnamon, and half a cup of water into a pan or pot. Cover with a lid and cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes until the apples are completely soft.
When the apples are soft, remove the piece of cinnamon. Then, mash the apples into a completely smooth consistency using a masher or a special spatula (they can also be blended after cooling).
Next, add the sugar and lemon juice to the puree. Cook the mixture over low or medium heat, stirring constantly. The sugar will gradually dissolve, and the jam will begin to thicken and take on a glossy appearance. Continue cooking for about 10–12 minutes.
To check the readiness of the jam, drop a little onto a cold plate. If the drop does not spread but holds its shape, the jam is ready. Turn off the heat and let the jam cool. After cooling, transfer it to a dry and clean glass jar for storage.
